Helambu lies in the Langtang region of Nepal. It is about 75 Km away from Kathmandu. This region is densely populated by the Sherpa minorities. The languages, cultures and the dress of Helambu’s Sherpa are different than that of the Everest’s Sherpa people. The Helambu trek can be done either from the Gosaikunda or from the Ganja la Pass (5106m).

It is very difficult to trek through Ganja la Pass in winter because of the height and snow covered trail.

The best’s time for trekking in Helambu area is from October to May. The starting point of the Helambu trekking is the Sundarijal or it is the best place to start the trekking. It is very convenient to get to the Sundarijal from Kathmandu by private vehicles.
